Warning - 'Copycat' Tapes & Unauthorised Training Courses!
The Kinesio® Taping Method is probably one of the most exciting fascial and musculoskeletal treatment techniques to be introduced in recent years.
Originally developed over 25 yrs ago by Dr. Kenzo Kase in Japan, the Kinesio® Taping Method - using the uniquely designed and patented
Kinesio® Tex Tape, has quickly become the internationally recognised "gold" standard for therapeutic rehabilitative taping. With continuous
research, development and clinical use, Kinesio® has built and earned its reputation as the innovator and leader in the elastic therapeutic
The association has trained over 200,000 practitioners and has over 200 certified instructors worldwide. For the 2008 Olympic Games
the Kinesio® Holding Corporation, as a whole, provided 50,000 rolls of Kinesio® Tex Tape.
Kinesio® Tex Tape is the only tape to be endorsed by Dr Kase for the
Kinesio® Taping Method.
They say that imitation is the best form of flattery and when an innovative product is introduced into the market place,
it is often not long before grey importers seek to introduce 'copycat' versions of the product. These companies often cause confusion
in the market place by using diversion tactics such as using a similar product name, or falsely associating the founder with their product etc.
Kinesiology Taping, Cure-Taping, Physio-Tape, Sports Tex Tape and K-Active tape are all examples. In Europe, there is even a Kenzo tape! Kinesio is not affiliated with any of these products or any training that they provide.
During 2008, Kinesio identified 1200 breaches of copyright by companies introducing 'copycat' versions of Kinesio® Tex Tape. Where necessary Kinesio® takes further action.
It has come to Kinesio's attention that a number of companies are carrying out unauthorised Kinesio® Taping Courses. These companies claim to offer Kinesio® Taping courses and/or course endorsement from the founder - Dr Kenzo Kase. These courses should be avoided because they are not recognised by the Kinesio Taping Association International, the trainers do not have instructor status through the KTAI, nor can they provide KTAI certification for attendees.
Kinesio® has always been an innovator with education and without the proper necessary instruction from our fully trained, certified and competent
instructors; we cannot support or recognise the instruction given by any other 'copycat' tape or training company. By taking an authorised Kinesio® Taping Course,
practitioners receive the most up-to-date instruction on the Kinesio® Taping Method, certification recognised worldwide and access to KTAI membership benefits (database, research library and forum). In order for practitioners to receive the best training and to be certified by the Kinesio Taping Association,
courses should only be booked through a Kinesio authorised training provider (listed on this website) or via the Kinesio UK training calendar.
The Kinesio Taping Method is at the forefront of fascial, lymphatic, and muscle research and benefits from continuous input from research bodies. The Kinesio Taping Association International is a worldwide organisation and regulates the teaching of Kinesio® Taping courses worldwide.
This ensures that each course meets the highest training standards and that trained practitioners receive certification which is recognised worldwide.
Each of our courses follows a specific curriculum set by the Kinesio Taping Association. This curriculum has been developed through 25 years of taping experience and is endorsed by the founder of the Kinesio Taping Method, Dr. Kenzo Kase.
The curriculum gives practitioners a standardised number of hours with the instructor to ensure they get the comprehensive training needed to achieve the best results.
All courses are taught by KTAI certified instructors.
Once practitioners have completed the necessary number of hours, they can attain certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner status.
Please note that only the KTAI can certify Kinesio Practitioners.
Kinesio UK is the official training partner and distributor for the UK and Ireland and, as such, we are affiliated to the
Kinesio Association International based in the USA (www.kinesiotaping.com). The Kinesio® Taping courses that we promote teach the original
Kinesio® Taping method and the Kinesio® Tex Tape that we supply is the only tape endorsed by both the
the KTAI and Dr Kenzo Kase.
Kinesio Taping Association International
The KTAI was established by Dr Kenzo Kase in 1984 and is the official governing body for the teaching of Kinesio Taping®. The KTAI provides the certification of Kinesio® Taping practitioners and instructors across the world. The KTAI is a legal entity in its own right and is independent of and separate to Kinesio UK.
