Supporting North East Freeman's Hospital Childrens Heart Unit

Kinesio UK is pleased that two of the north-east of England's most famous stars, Ant and Dec, have become Patrons of the Children's Heart Unit Fund (CHUF).

The Children?s Heart Unit at Newcastle?s Freeman Hospital is one of only two centres in the UK offering paediatric heart transplant and bridge to transplant, with transplant numbers increasing to the point where the unit now provides almost HALF of the UK?s paediatric transplants.

During a visit at the Freeman Hospital, Ant said "We have been to the unit a couple of times and have seen the work they do and we were only too happy to be part of it"

Dec added, "It really puts things into perspective when you walk around here. Suddenly your problems don?t seem that big anymore when you see kids waiting for a new heart, waiting for a donor"

Celebrity Fund Raising

CHUF raises money to buy equipment, facilities, aftercare and research for the Children's Heart Unit and the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Freeman Hospital.

On the 8th July, Ant and Dec shared the tee with Alan Shearer and Lee Westwood on "Have a Heart CHUF golf day" organised by Graham Wylie. The star studded day also saw TV presenters Ben Shephard, Clare Balding and Johnny Wilkes compete against Strictly Come Dancing's Anton Du Beke, snooker player Willie Thorne and lead singer of Keane, Tom Chaplin. The Golf day raised an amazing contribution of over £200,000 for CHUF.

Next Event - 280 Mile Coast to Coast

However, more money is hoped to be raised this month. CHUF?s next major fund raising event is their UK Coast 2 Coast endurance challenge.

This year, the challenge will see Ivan and seven others cycle 75 miles from Whitehaven to Keswick, swim one mile across Derwent Water, cycle 65 miles to Alston, run 35 miles and then finish on day four with a marathon ending on Tynemouth Long Sands on Wednesday, July 24, at 4pm, where people are invited to join for a celebratory party. Full schedule is as follows:

  • Sunday 21st July: Cycle 75 miles from Whitehaven to Keswick
  • Monday 22st July: Swim 1 mile across Derwent Water & Cycle 65 miles to Alston
  • Tuesday 23rd: Run 35 miles to Close House Hotel, Heddon on the Wall
  • Wednesday 24th: Run a Marathon from Close House Hotel to Tynemouth Longsands Beach

Kinesio UK is proud to be sponsoring CHUF for a 3rd year running. The event target is to raise £20,000 to add the £311,000 already raised to rebuild the playroom and play area at Ward 23 of the Children?s Heart Unit.

Anyone who wants to sponsor should visit or text CHUF99 and £5 or £10 to 70070.
