What are the differences between Traditional Sports Taping and Kinesio Taping®?

McConnell Taping

McConnell is a strapping method which uses a rigid adhesive tape. It can affect the bio-mechanics of the patient and it is usually only used for short periods of time as it can easily cause skin irritation.

White Athletic Taping

White Athletic taping uses a rigid cloth tape to immobilise and protect joints from injury. It is mainly used for acute and preventative injury. This form of taping is usually only applied for short periods of activity, as it can cause skin irritation due to entrapment of moisture, it's high latex content and high compression due to the wrapping technique. No rehabilitation purposes or benefits.

Kinesio Taping

Kinesio Taping® uses a special elastic cotton adhesive tape that is directly applied to stretched skin to support and rehabilitate. It allows full range of motion and will not affect the bio-mechanics of the patient. There is no latex so it is suitable for pediatric and geriatric patients. No compression on the skin makes it feel light, so it can be worn for 3-5 days. Works with the lymphatic system to increase blood and lymph circulation and relieve pain.
